Why are so many people getting dermal fillers?
Today, more that ever, dermal fillers has a place in our society to improve one’s appearance, elevate your self-esteem, and take years off of your age. So much emphasis today is placed on how well you look, or just as important, how well you think you look. Make up has been around for thousands of years to change the color and hide blemishes and dermal fillers soften the contours of the face which counter the gravitational forces on nature. Sun, age, and toxins destroy collagen the frame work within the skin and fillers are poised to cosmetically improve this.
What areas are improved with dermal fillers?
The mainstay of dermal injections has been the enhancement of a patients lips. By improving the volume and contour of the lips, it gives a very soft and sexy look. What I find fascinating is the placement of dermal fillers in the Naso-labial folds of the face. Those crevices, between the nose and the corners of the mouth can be extremely age telling. By correcting this fold, you can literally take years off your appearance and feel much better about yourself. Correcting the down-ward turn of the corners of the mouth can have profound effects on your appearance and give one a more youthful vibrant look. We now routinely put fillers under the eyes to lessen that hated furrow which lies there, placing fillers in the cheek bone and even the outside of the eyebrow can dramatically improve your looks.
I don't want my lips to look like inter-tubes, how do you avoid this?
If I treat a patient and someone can tell they have been treated from a distance, then I have not done my job and have done a disservice to the patient. A well trained and experienced dermal injector will correct your appearance so that people may look and think, “You look happier, have you gotten more sleep,” but not be able to put their finger on the what you have had done. Then I have done my job. My goal is the subtle enhancement.
What about Botox® and fillers?
Almost all of my patients have Botox® with their fillers. The smoothing effect of Botox® with dermal fillers is excellent. It also slow down the degradation of the fillers. Currently there are many new fillers on the market besides Restylane®. Juviderm® and Radiesse®, of which I have had personal experience with, are very good choices for the educated consumer to consider.
